Gym Rules - #2
RULE 2: We don’t make excuses Excuses are everywhere. I hear them every single day. What I hear when someone gives an excuse is: ‘This isn’t important enough for me to make the sacrifices I need to make it a priority.’ And there is absolutely nothing wrong with having priorities. We should all have them. But don’t make excuses. Let’s put some context to this: Don’t be the person that says they want to get in shape but then makes the excuse that they are too busy with work to exercise. Be the person that says I’m not interested in training or my health because work is my priority and I put all my time and effort into it. (We can argue about having the right priorities another time) I’m going to assume that most of the people following this page have health & fitness reasonably high on their priority list. To those people: Don’t say you don’t have time if you spent any time watching TV. Don’t say you want eat healthy if you say it’s too hard or too expensive to prepare good food. Don’t say you can’t train because you can’t make it to the gym - running, jumping, squats, lunges, push ups, burpees, planks etc only involve your bodyweight (just ask me for a bodyweight only session, I’ll give you a workout). In most situations, especially those involved with health & fitness, we can either: Look for reasons to do something; Or Look for excuses not to do something. Here, we don’t make excuses. We make choices to do the things that are important to us. We wake up earlier to train if we know we have a busy day; We go for a night walk before bed if we haven’t hit our daily steps; We prepare good food if we don’t have access to it at the office; We go to sleep earlier instead of watching TV if we need to recover. These clips are from a few weeks ago, on a day where the crew had every reason to come up with an excuse not to train. Friday afternoon, 41 degrees. Not only did they come and get after it, I had about eight messages asking to get it done earlier than usual. So at 2pm, in the peak of the heat, we had one of our all time greatest FYFs. Excuses, like complaining, won’t get you anywhere. #one22
