Gym Rules - #7

RULE 7: There is strength in numbers - support each other. ⁣ ⁣ Both Junior and I are big on teams. ⁣ We have been part of teams our entire lives. ⁣ We enjoy the feeling of contributing to something greater than ourselves. ⁣ ⁣ Most of us experience a similar feeling (sporting team, family, friendship group, work colleagues etc.) and it dates right back through evolution where the need to belong to a tribe was critical for survival. ⁣ ⁣ As we age, many of us lose connection with a team environment as we drop out of junior sport, high school teams etc. ⁣

⁣ What we are trying to do at One22 is create a team environment. We believe that for most people, training as part of a small community will ultimately yield the best results. Being around like minded people, who will pat you on the back when you’ve done well and kick you up the ass when you need it is a key component of our culture. This sense of belonging will keep us coming to the gym. It will keep us consistent with our training. It will encourage us to feel a part of something.⁣ ⁣ Two of my favourite things about our gym are the atmosphere when someone is going for a personal best and also the shit talk that’s given to someone who comes back in after slacking off for a period of time. Both situations show a sense of care. ⁣ ⁣ We understand that some people enjoy the solo training environment and that’s no dramas at all. Just remember the old African proverb “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” ⁣ #one22
