Motivation is Fleeting

STOP RELYING ON MOTIVATION TO GET YOU GOING⁣ ⁣ Motivation is fleeting. It’s bullshit. It comes and goes. And if you’re relying on it to get you into shape, you’re doing yourself a disservice. ⁣ ⁣ If you’re someone that constantly battles with feeling motivated and you’re always looking for the next spark of motivation. Then maybe you’ll benefit from reading this…⁣ ⁣ I always hated the excuse – ‘I’m just not motivated to train… to eat better… to get my 10,000 steps in…’⁣ ⁣ Not doing something just because you’re not motivated to do it, is quite frankly, a baby’s attitude.⁣ ⁣ If you don’t feel like brushing your teeth, do you go to bed without brushing them?⁣ ⁣ If you don’t want to go to work, do you stay at home?⁣ ⁣ If you do these things regardless of how you feel, why is your health, your life, any different?⁣ ⁣ Inspiration is great. We should use it while we’ve got it. Some days we’re going to wake up and feel energized. This energy might last a few days, a week or if you’re really lucky, a month. So push the envelope when we do have it. But recognise it’s not going to last forever.⁣ ⁣ Anyone can rock up to a training session when they’re motivated and push themselves. But what about when you’re sore and lethargic? When the motivation is gone and you’re feeling sorry for yourself? Are you really just going to put your health and your performance on hold until you get that spark again?⁣ ⁣ It’s in these times that it’s even more important that you do the things you don’t want to do. @davidgoggins calls it ‘callusing your mind.’⁣

Instead of seeking motivation. Seek discipline, consistency & momentum.⁣ ⁣ Aim to stay so disciplined with your training that it becomes a habit – much like brushing your teeth is (refer to our ‘Habits’ article on our website).⁣ ⁣ When somethings a habit, you do it consistently. And as we’ve said before, consistency is the most important yet most overlooked variable in the training process.⁣ ⁣ Consistency helps generate momentum – like a snowball effect. So when that day does come, when you don’t feel like getting out of bed, you’ll find a reason to get after it.⁣ ⁣ Motivation is fleeting.⁣ ⁣ Discipline is controlled by you. #one22
