Education
It’s important. To quote Louie Simmons; ‘Your pyramid is only as tall as its base.’ He discusses this point in terms of general physical conditioning. But it holds very true for your intellect too. We pride ourselves on having a reasonable understanding of health, exercise, human movement and performance. We are no experts by any stretch of the imagination. And we don’t pretend to be. We are well aware that we are building our foundation, the base of our pyramid. But we do feel like we combine knowledge and experience reasonably well. One without the other is an incomplete package. He who is educated but has no experience has no ‘real world’ cases. Life is not like a book. Things do mess up and often don’t go according to plan. He who has experience but lacks education may fail to apply critical thought to situations (the ‘this is what we’ve always done mantra’). Having a deep, theoretical understanding of underlying principals (anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, psychology etc.) can help shape decision making when things don’t go according to plan. In a world where becoming a fitness/health/exercise ‘expert’ is becoming increasingly easy... - Short courses - 12 weeks to learn exercise, movement, the human body, physical assessments, nutrition concepts, psychology (to name a few) YA KIDDING - Insta ‘influencers’ - having a decent rig and a camera now allows you to give training/nutrition advice to the people that follow you? ... it can be a difficult task to sift through the rubbish that’s out there. Be informed when making a decision regarding your health, performance and/or longevity. Your body and mind will thank you for it. #one22
