If you’re looking to lose weight – eat real foods
If you’re looking to improve your performance – eat real foods If you’re looking to feel better – eat real foods You’re not 6 years old anymore. Stop eating like a child. Real foods come from the earth or from an animal. We’re talking plants, fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, fish, nuts and seeds.
If it comes in a packet, or it’s making a health promotion – “Great source of fibre!” – it’s probably not a real food. Yes, there are exceptions - a lot of nuts and meat come in packages but you get the point – a banana doesn’t need to tell you how much potassium it’s got. But you can be sure as shit that your box of Weet-bix is going to tell you it’s “high in iron to fight tiredness and fatigue.”
When we focus on real foods, we’re more likely to eat in an energy balance (calories in = calories out). Obviously, we can overeat on whole foods, but it’s much more likely you’ll overeat at McDonalds then you would, had you cooked steak and veg at home. Even if you are overeating on real foods, at least you’re overeating on something that’s nutrient dense. You’re likely to meet your recommended daily intake of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) as well as other compounds such as phyto and zoochemicals. If you’re overeating on shitty foods like chocolate and ice cream, you increase your chances of gaining weight and being undernourished. Next time you go grocery shopping ask yourself;
Did this come from an animal? Did it come from the earth? Will this food go off in a few days? *Should be a yes*
Is it packaged? (If yes, make sure no more than 1-3 ingredients) Is it making some sort of health promotion? *Should be a no* How many ingredients can I pronounce? *All of them* Before you take anything out of your diet or try anything like; fasting, detoxing, low-carb, low-fat, keto, carnivore or vegan. Try adding in more whole foods to your diet – especially plants. You’ll probably notice that your energy levels improve, you’re less lethargic and you’re in less pain. You won’t rely on the quick fix of sugar and other chemicals to get you going. #one22
