So You Lost Some Momentum Over Christmas? What Now?
This is just a little reminder to everyone that went off the rails a little bit over the holidays. If you ate too much Christmas ham, choccy or put down a few too many beers over the break then you’re like the rest of us. If you didn’t exercise as much as you’d like – welcome to the club. It happens every year – we all tell ourselves we’re not going to eat or drink too much – that we’re going to exercise and stay on top of our fitness – but that rarely ever happens. And that’s fine… It’s totally normal to slacken off over the Christmas break. It’s a time to spend relaxing with family and friends, so it’s natural that your fitness may slip. Now, ideally you exercised a little and didn’t go too far off the rails with your nutrition. But even if you did, you’ve now got a whole new year to focus on fixing that and improving on last year. Your fitness and your health haven’t been sabotaged just because you spent a few weeks slacking. But don’t expect to get back to the level you were at right before Christmas in one or two sessions. What we need to do is ease our way back into a consistent training and nutrition program one step at a time. The saying - ‘How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!’ holds true here. Focus on what you can do today to push yourself a little bit closer to where you want to be. If you gained some weight, start cleaning up that diet and get your steps in. If you lost some strength, get under a barbell and start building it back up. If you’ve lounging around all day, you’re probably stiff as a board, so start putting your body back through its range. Remember to focus on small steps and be patient. The results aren’t going to come in one day, but they will come. #one22
